Freedom Kit Bags

The Club, through our Foundation and International Committee, has made a donation to the Charity "Freedom Kit Bags" which supports girls and women in rural and low income areas of Nepal who have no access to hygienic sanitary wear.

According to Brian Mildenhall (Trustee and Treasurer), they started Freedom Kit Bags almost by accident in the summer of 2016.

"We were in Nepal doing other charitable work (we`ve been working in Nepal since 2009) and met a Nepalese lady making single sanitary pads. She told us her story and about life for women and girls in villages – how in many communities in Nepal, menstruation is seen as an embarrassing, shameful and dirty process; a lack of access to hygienic sanitary ear leading to a lifetime of persistent infections, social exclusion, indignity, loss of opportunities, interrupted education at best, or sadly and more commonly, girls dropping out of education completely – in the long term a lack of education can have a devastating impact on a girl’s life, child marriage, early pregnancy, vulnerability to violence and abuse. From that early beginning we developed our Kit Bag and Education Programme getting input from medical, educational, local government, women’s groups, social workers and of course the women themselves.

To date we are so proud to say we have distributed more than 30,000 Freedom Kit Bags directly impacting the lives of over 19,000 women and 11,000 girls throughout Nepal. But there is still so much more to do."
