Rotherham Sitwell Rotary has approval for another District Grant.
.The Rotary Foundation has just approved funding for Rotherham Sitwell Rotary’s project at Swinton Lock Activity Centre for its Men in Sheds initiative. Together with a donation through the Framework for Giving, a District Rotary Foundation Grant will enable to the Centre to extend the working space for this new initiative.
Currently, up to 25 men aged between 18 years and 76 years old meet twice a week to learn new craft skills such as woodworking and blacksmithing. The men attending have a range of physical and mental health issues but are benefitting from companionship and a sense of purpose.
There are three key objectives for this Rotary supported project.
Clear and fence off an area of 36 sq. metres adjoining the South Yorkshire Navigation Canal. This will increase the area of the Men in Sheds compound from 109 sq.m. to 145sq.m. See diagram.
Construct a covered shelter of approximately 6 sq. metres to allow the men to meet, learn and apply their new skills for the benefit of the Centre and the Community all year round. See diagram.
Extend the average attendance of the Men in Sheds programme from 15 to 30.
Now that the funding has been secured, work will begin as soon as possible.
