From the President-August 2015

Submitted by Anonymous on 15 August 2015

I hope you are enjoying the beautiful British Summer. Hope it’s not too hot for you. I am certainly enjoying it.

We had two big events during this month.

Music in the Gardens.

We have done very well this year. All together 70 people went in two coaches on Saturday 4th July 2015. Tickets were completely sold out on that day. We had our own Gazebo and also we had a wonderful meal. All of us were dancing and enjoying the music. It is all because of our great Rotarians Andy Bates, David Taylor and Tony Jackson who gave lots of their time, hard work and sheer enthusiasm. I gather we have sold around £ 180,000 worth of tickets and raised around £ 60,000 for our Charities. Our sincere thanks go to these three Rotarians and all the members who supported.

The second big event was the Dry Land Regatta on 11th July 2015 .This event was organized along with the Lions Club of Bramley and Wickersley. We had very good turnout and the weather was excellent. I am not sure how much we have raised from this but I believe between £3500 and £4000.That is for a very good cause. We all know this fund is going to help Maltby Hill Top School to build a canopy for autistic children. Our sincere thanks go to Mr Peter Keary for his wonderful work and all the committee members who were helping him and of course all the Rotarians and their friends who supported it.

On 9th July we had a wonderful quiz. “How much do you know Rotherham” by our own Ann Ogley who worked very hard and presented it beautifully. She went out early in the morning to take photographs of our town and did an excellent job.

On 16th July we had our chief guest D.G. Margaret Taylor and her husband Brian attending our meeting. She also addressed our meeting and was very thankful and enjoyed our hospitality. Our past president Graham Hudson introduced Mr. Joe Walker as a worthy recipient of a Paul Harris fellowship and D.G. Margaret Taylor presented Joe with the appropriate Jewels of Fellowship and Joe was very much touched during the ceremony.

On 23rd July we had a speaker meeting and the speaker was my son Dr Malav Bhimpuria and he gave us an insight into Sleep Apnoea and I am pleased to say it went very well and everybody enjoyed it. I also got few e-mails from fellow Rotarians on how good the talk was and what an excellent job he is doing by saving the NHS money. Of course I am proud of him.

On 30th July we had a wonderful partners’ evening and everybody enjoyed it. My sincere thanks go to Anita, Pauline and Trish who attended our meeting and it was very nice to see them. My thanks go to Roger Fearn who organized brilliantly.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer.

Yogesh Bhimpuria
